Lake Havasu's London Bridge, A Top Arizona Attraction.

The third most visited man-made attraction in Arizona. That's according
to the Arizona Tourism Statistical Report for 2004. The London Bridge was
ranked behind Chase Field, home of the Arizona Diamondbacks MLB Team
Stadium in Phoenix and Tempe Town Lake in Tempe, Arizona. Chase Field
boasted 2.8 million visitors, Tempe Town Lake, 2.3 million and the London
Bridge drew about 2.0 million visitors.
The historic London Bridge that spanned across the River Thames in London,
England was built in the 1830s. Since the bridge was gradually sinking, it was
decided that a new, more modern bridge be built across the river. Surprisingly
the old bridge, the subject of the song "The London Bridge is falling down"
was auctioned and purchased by Robert McCullock, the developer of Lake
Havasu City.
The London Bridge was dismantled with each stone carefully labeled and
shipped to Long Beach, California where it was trucked to Lake Havasu City
and reassembled connecting the shores of Lake Havasu City to a small island
in Lake Havasu. The project took about three years and was completed in
1971. Read more about the London Bridge at Lake Havasu.
